6-Step Process of Stamping Concrete Surfaces

How Is Stamped Concrete Laid?

There are many benefits to choosing stamped concrete. Such surfaces don’t just look better, but they are also very long-lasting. This article will outline the main steps of laying decorative concrete:

  • Pouring concrete. The process of stamping concrete starts with pouring this durable material. Specialists will choose the right mix, depth, thickness, and reinforcement. The correct proportion of Portland cement, water, and rocks determines the strength of your pavement.
  • Adding a suitable color. A professional contractor may use two methods of coloring this material. The chosen color could be added in the concrete mixer in advance or he can apply it after the material is laid and smoothed.
  • Applying a color release agent. Prior to the actual stamping and using the texture mats, a color release agent must be applied. This special formula powder will help prevent mats from sticking to the freshly poured concrete. 3.5 lbs of an agent are enough to cover 100 square feet. Professionals probably will use a brush to spread the powder around.
  • Texturing the concrete. A team of experts will begin applying the mats one by one in a zig-zag pattern. Timing is crucial here and the job must be done before the material dried out completely. After the first row of mats is placed, the first worker will start to tamp them with a special tool. Another worker will fluff the release agent throughout the entire process. They will continue with the mats until the whole surface is treated.
  • Cleaning with a pressure washer. This must be performed 24 hours after the application is finished. A pressure washer should be used to remove the excess release agent and other debris.
  • Applying a quality sealant. After the pavement is completely dry, a specialist will apply a quality sealant to make the surface even more beautiful and make it long-lasting.
